Cyberbuzz FAQs

What happened to Cyberbuzz?

The Cyberbuzz website has been transplanted and amended to become part of involvement.gatech.edu. Almost all of Cyberbuzz's website features have been supplanted by newer, faster, and better technologies on campus, such as T-Square, Buzzport, and Zimbra. We are grateful for all of the work and effort put into the Cyberbuzz website as it pioneered the way for Georgia Tech students on the web.

Help! My question is not answered below!

1. I am new to websites. How should I get started?

The Presidents Council Governing Board has provided a great guide to getting started.
http://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/prescouncil/WebGuide/guide.html

2. How do I login to my website?

There is no browser based login to your website or club. You can SFTP into your organizations site with the following credentials:
host: users.cyberbuzz.gatech.edu
user: YourOrgId pass: YourOrgPassword

3. The server is rejecting my login, what can I do?

It is likely you do not have the correct password or username if you are logging in with the host above via WinSCP, Dreamweaver, or other FTP program. If you need your password reset, please fill out this form.

4. How can I recover my password?

If you need your password reset, please fill out this form. However, your organization needs to be in good standing with updated Officer Information (items 1 and 2 from this page: http://www.involvement.gatech.edu/plugins/content/index.php?id=4). If these updates are outstanding, we will not be able to reset your password until they are completed and returned to the Office of Student Involvement.

5. How do I register an account?

Accounts on the Cyberbuzz server are only available to clubs and organizations, not for personal use. If you are an organization and would like to request a Cyberbuzz account to host a website, please use this form: https://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/main/support/request_account.php

6. What are the Cyberbuzz server's limitations and specifications?

The Cyberbuzz server has PHP 4, mySQL 3, and is running on Apache. There is phpMyAdmin available for websites with databases. There are no specific size limitations per account on Cyberbuzz, however, folders are recommended to have less than 250mb. If an organization is using too much space, it will be warned before files are deleted.

7. Can we host videos on Cyberbuzz?

No, there is not enough space for groups to host video files on Cyberbuzz. However, you can place your video for free on YouTube and link to it or stream it.

8. How can I get a mySQL database?

Please fill out this form and your database will be created and confirmed. To access your database with a GUI / browser interface, use this link with your database username and password (not your Organization Username and Password)
https://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/support/phpMyAdmin/

9. How can I recover my mySQL database username and or password?

If you are unsure of your password, we will need to delete and recreate your database user, which will remove any database connectivity until you update your files with the new user and password. Please fill out this form and your database username and password will be recreated to your specifications.

10. My information on the organizations page is out of date. How can I update it?

Completing items 1 and 2 from this page (http://www.involvement.gatech.edu/plugins/content/index.php?id=4) on a regular basis should ensure your information is up to date. However, if there is a simple typo, please use this form to request it be fixed.

11. Can I install a blog or CMS editor?

Yes you can, but functionality can be limited. You cannot CHMOD your file access, so certain pages enabling file uploads via a browser will fail. Also, you will have to have a mySQL database, which you can request.

12. Can I use CGI scripts?

CGIs are permitted via cgi-wrap and accessed as http://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/cgi-bin/cgiwrap/[yourloginid]/cgi-bin/.

* Create a cgi-bin directory in your www directory.
* Place CGI's in this directory.

CGIs can be placed in http://cyberbuzz.gatech.edu/cgi-bin/ if they do not run under cgi-wrap

* However, permission must be granted by a system administrator for security purposes.
* This can take awhile as the code has to be looked over line by line for security holes. See CGI Submittal Procedure.

Cyberbuzz provides an email form submissionfor you use, please see this page for more information
